Short Story #110

A handful of face.

We have all been a kid and we have all had our cheeks squished by that one family member. That distinguishable feeling haunts me even as an adult. Growing up we hated it! It made no sense and had no place in this world. So we thought. We had no idea that this was their way of expressing every happy emotion at one time. When my wife becomes speechless of the love she has for one of hers dogs she will grab them and repeatedly kiss them all over their face. She will carry on this way for about 20 seconds and during this time I can see my 6 year old self in them.

Elements of this story

The claw: It important to realize that while this woman's hand does have a vice like grip on his face it is being done with love directly from the heart. The easiest way to tell is by the delicacy of the hand.

Wine: It goes without saying that a glass of wine can intensify emotion and contribute to the pain and embarrassment this child will endure.

2 against one: In this occasion the woman on the right is his mother. This is a huge problem when it comes to expressing your disinterest in what is happening to your face. There is a look that mom will give you that says "you will take it and you will like it".

Expression: I don't need to say much about this besides the fact that he is angry and is most likely thinking "this is the last time!"

Thank you so much for taking the time to open yourself up to this short story. As always, it is my intention to help show others there is so much more to just liking a photo. Its important that we find pieces of ourselves in others photographs.

Sincerely,

Jordan Ruiz
